Our History

Technological Leadership: "Cito" was the first in Georgia to implement modern laboratory technologies and GLP standards.

Professional Team: The company was founded with 15 employees and today employs over 200 highly qualified specialists.

Unique Recognition: "Cito" is the only laboratory in Georgia to have achieved the highest international medical standard, ISO 15189 ANAB (since 2016). It also holds ISO 9001 (since 2005).

Wide Coverage: We have been operating continuously since 1997 and are now available at 12 locations, including in 5 regions of Georgia.

Our Journey

1997

Cito Formation

  • Natia Shavadia, following the French model, founded The Medical Center "Cito" — the first clinical laboratory in the region that meets European standards.
  • For the first time in Georgia, she introduced products from the global leader in biotechnology, "bioMérieux", including modern analyzers, ultra-sensitive, and highly specific test systems.
2001

Educational Activities

  • A library was established at the Medical Center "Cito," and a handbook titled "Clinical Bacteriology" was published for doctors and laboratory medicine professionals. The book was authored by Dr. Marika Kereselidze, a Doctor of Biological Sciences, specializing in clinical bacteriology.

Brand Representation

  • The subsidiary company "Prima Medi" was established under "Cito", becoming the exclusive distributor of the French biotechnology company "bioMérieux" in Georgia.
2005

Quality & Certification

  • The Medical Laboratory Research Department of LLC "Medical Center Cito" obtained certification for ISO 9001:2000 – Quality Management System Requirements.

  • Every year, the laboratory research department successfully undergoes an annual assessment.

2006

Laboratory Expansion

  • LLC "Cito 2"—a microbiological testing laboratory — was established under the LLC "Medical Center Cito".

  • "Cito 2" offers microbiological testing services for food products, water, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

2009

Clinical Development

  • LLC "Medical Center Cito" relocated to a new address (N40, Z. Paliashvili Street, 0179, Tbilisi) and transformed into a multidisciplinary day ambulatory clinic - "Outpatient Clinic".

  • Highly qualified doctors' team is supported by state-of-the-art laboratory of "Cito".

2010

New Branch

  • The Pediatric Center "Cito Baby" was opened under LLC "Medical Center Cito".

  • "Cito Baby" is distinguished by its modern, child-friendly approach.

2012

New Branch

  • Satellite sample collection points were opened in the cities Zugdidi and Senaki.

Consulting & Media

  • "Cito Consulting Group" was established under LLC "Medical Center Cito" as a consulting service for clinical laboratories, specializing in accreditation and certification matters.

  • The "Cito News" information service was created to provide updates on medical advancements, new laboratory tests and technologies, highlighting their relevance and importance in clinical practice.

  • Satellite sample collection points were opened in the cities Gori, Khashuri, and Batumi.

Technological News

  • The technological base of the Clinical Immunology Department was upgraded with the addition of "Vidac PC" from the French biotechnology company "bioMérieux". This system enables the determination of up to 80 immunological and immunochemical parameters.

  • A satellite sample collection point was opened in the city Kutaisi.

Technological News

  • The technological base of the Clinical Bacteriology Department was upgraded with the addition of "Bact/Alert® 3D" from the French biotechnology company "bioMérieux". This system enhances microbial detection capabilities, enabling faster and more accurate identification of infections in clinical samples.

Social Responsibility

  • With the participation of the director of LLC "Medical Center Cito", Natia Shavadia, the Georgian Alzheimer's Association was established as a public organization. Its goal is to support individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease and raise awareness about the condition within society.

  • A branch of "Cito" was opened in Gldani, Tbilisi.

  • The technological base of the Clinical Hematology Department was upgraded with the addition of "SFRI Hemix 5-60", which provides a five-part differentiation of leukocytes.

  • "Cito" laboratory became centralized and moved to Dighomi, on Beliashvili Street.

  • A satellite sample collection point was opened in the city Samtredia.

  • The central office of "Cito" was renovated and the branch was equipped with modern technologies and equipment.

  • The central branch of "Cito" added a ophthalmology office equipped with modern technology.

  • The ultrasound department of Cito's central branch was equipped with a Canon ultrasound machine - Aplio a450.

Covid-19 Services

  • The "Cito" joined the COVID-19 testing program, providing COVID-related services both at home and in the clinic.

  • An online platform, Covcheck.ge, was created under "Cito Diagnostics" to provide a more flexible booking system for COVID-19 testing.

Professional Development

  • "Cito" announced a scholarship competition in the field of microbiology, with the winner receiving a 200 GEL scholarship for one year, alongside an internship in the microbiology department.

Professional Development

  • With the support of USAID, "Cito" implemented a professional skills development project. As part of the partnership, with the European Business Association (EBA) and the Georgian-American University (GAU), "Cito" works to eliminate the skills deficit in the medical laboratory sub-sector.

  • The Clinical Microbiology Department was equipped with the innovative devices "PREVI® COLOR GRAM" and "VITEK® MS PRIME" from the French biotechnology company "biomerieux".

Professional Development

  • “Cito” established a Training Center for Laboratory Technicians as part of its educational initiative.

  • Comprehensive training sessions in laboratory medicine were delivered by representatives of leading global biotechnology companies – Abbott and HORIBA.

  • In collaboration with American auditors, Cito once again successfully completed the ANAB International Accreditation process in 2024 and obtained the new ISO 15189:2022 certification.
